Fall decorations, Pumkins, corn stalks, gourds, squash, decorative corn, and the Hermit hayride! A cup of warm apple cider on the hayride, the low rumbling of the tractor, the cool seasonal air, walking the corn maze with friends and family. [sigh…] I wish fall was all year long!
Ole man winter was a cousin of mine… As a child he was awfully confused about the seasons. We would always have to remind him that it was suppose to snow in winter and rain in the spring time. I think I’ll write him another reminder!
Went for a walk this morning, it was right after the first bird song of the morning and something happened that I will never forget!
I saw one of the eyes open up and it’s pupil move all around, then stop and look right at me! It’s pupil got so big I thought It was trying to swallow me! I instantly froze! Then in an it blinked twice and every eye in eye world opened and was focusing on me. My heart was racing, if they had ears they could have heard my heart pounding…
Then it occurred to me, they’re just eyes… “Let ’em look, they can’t do anything else.” At that very moment they all blinked in unison and then closed as though they never opened at all. I just kept walking the path thinking “this is odd, the eyes usually start to open closer to the end of September.” I wonder what made them open this early and only for a little while?
It’s looking like another sunny day here at the Cicero Pumkin Patch! I got up early this morning and made some breakfast, then drank my coffee as I walked the grave yard. It looked as though a pack of Ghouls passed through last night, because part of the fence was violently smashed down! This seems to be the time of the season when they become a little restless, the hot summer makes them fairly dormant normally. I think they mistakenly thought it was the Fall season because of the cooler weather so they wake up and raise a ruckus and shake the grave stones! This pack of ghouls must have been younger, the tracks they left were pretty small and they didn’t knock over the larger grave stones, just a couple of small ones. I never know why they do this, maybe their trying to get the ghosts to come out and do some haunting? From my observation of them over the years the ghosts are fairly regimented creatures. They only come out when large groups of living people are around. Just like when a hound dog picks up the sent of a fox and gets excited, the ghosts come out when lots of people are around. Guess I better go let the old farmer know so he can get some fence supplies. He’s pretty busy so I’ll see if I can’t get it fixed for him this week.
This is my Blog page… The farmer told me I have to keep it upto date and tell everyone what’s going on around the patch if I want to stay rent free here in the Swamp!
Being a hermit has its perks! Especially living around the Cicero Pumkin Patch… All the Pumkin I can eat! Plus I do get a lot of visitors around September and October. Some times they forget their shoes so I hang them up in the trees. Over the years I hang them up in the trees thinking some one would come back for their missing shoes. But they never do, so I have quite the collection. If you want to see all of them, come down and visit us this September for a hay ride! The farmer told me they’ll be opening up September 21st this year. Visit my blog in the mean time for updates!
